An alternative to boudoir photography – Revealed Undone

Revealed Undone – Stripped down, natural, for this moment…

We’re ready to share our big secret..introducing Undone Sessions

Over the last year, we’ve been quietly creating a series of images to represent a new style of work. It’s been hard keeping this work hidden, but we’re finally ready to announce Revealed Undone—an alternative to the traditional boudoir.

What IS an undone Session?

Beginning at sunrise or sunset, we’ll set out for a secluded location in nature. This is about the moment and your expression, so wear something simple, something that moves with you. We’ll give you a little direction, like a yoga or dance instructor, but nothing overly intrusive.

The Details:

Sessions will last around 90 minutes, give or take. Afterward, we’ll choose between 25 and 35 images that we feel best to tell the story of your experience. They’ll be web resolution and delivered to you electronically. These files are complimentary. We feel this type of work looks best as fine art prints or an unbound album, which you can purchase after you’ve seen your photos.

Undone vs. Boudoir:

Why offer this sort of session in addition to our boudoir services? There are a number of reasons—our personal love of taking pictures outside (the light, the natural beauty); we’re also suckers for the way hair and fabric move in the wind. But beyond those reasons, this is a response to something deeper.

In all we do we want to provide a safe space for women to connect with and express themselves. While boudoir is a great way to do that, this undone session take it one step further. In shifting the focus away from hair and makeup, away from lingerie, and away from the recipient of the images, the experience becomes even more personal and intimate. It can be meditative, playful, and releasing. This is for you. The whole you, free of the public gaze, of judgment, of pressure.

SPECIAL PRICING THROUGH THE END OF JUNE.

For a limited time, we’re offering Undone sessions for $499 (regular $599) and a portion of the profits from all Undone sessions will be donated to End the Backlog.

Slots are limited for 2018 due to the Chicago climate. Contact us today to secure your session while the weather allows.

To see more undone session examples, please visit our Revealed Undone page.

Lingerie Photography with Ms. J

“I feel like I can conquer the world with the right lingerie. And to this, I celebrate.” With pieces all the way from France, Ms. J stuns in her lingerie photography session

lingerie-photography-_0001

Sometimes one boudoir shoot just isn’t enough. Which was the case for Ms. J, who came in for her first session last February.  In July we received an email with the subject line: “Virgo season, bday shoot.” Before we even opened the message we knew we’d already be on board for whatever she had in mind.

Her idea was to showcase the gorgeous pieces of lingerie she picked up in Paris over the summer in a sultry hotel setting. After some speedy research, we decided on a suite at The Waldorf Astoria, loving the clean lines, neutral color palette, and floor to ceiling windows.

lingerie-photography-_0018

When we arrived, Ms. J had each item laid out on the bed before us in a layflat design that would make an editorial stylist proud. When we saw the lingerie in person we knew exactly why she wanted to do another photoshoot. This time around though, we’re letting her share in her own words…

“I feel like I can conquer the world with the right lingerie. And to this, I celebrate.”

lingerie-photography-_0016

“I have no idea where my love for lingerie comes from…all I know is how I feel when I’m wearing it. Empowered. On my last visit to Paris, I decided to do a Tour de Dentelle. Tour of Lace. My journey brought me to some of the oldest lingerie boutiques on rue St-Honoré to the newest and trendiest departments at Galeries Lafayette. I wanted to do a photoshoot in them not only to celebrate myself for the 34-year-old woman I’ve grown to become and love but also to capture and commemorate the essence of the items that speak most to my soul.

lingerie-photography-_0014

The star of my show was made by Aubade. This company was founded in 1875 and was known for their girdles and corsets. I picked up this set because of the originality of the suspender belt design—so simple yet excellent at elongating the thighs because they hold the stockings from the sides, not from the front and back, like most. Easier access for all parties involved  Another thing I love about this set is the tiny blue Swarovski crystals sewn into the lace. One can only see them if he’s lucky enough to get that close!

lingerie-photography-_0025

The bodysuit was made by Honey Bridette, which is actually an Australian company, but I couldn’t help but fall in love with the details. The deep v front leaves exceptional room for the imagination. The gold buckles add just enough of a bondage feel but are offset by the dainty lace trim on the open back. Paired with my favorite red lipstick and stilettos, easily one of the power pieces in my collection.

lingerie-photography-_0041

Lastly, the high waisted briefs. Love at first sight! Pairing this with a bra wouldn’t have done them any justice. The boning all around the piece and the placement of the lace will accentuate even the most petite woman’s curves. The drawstring in the back gives it a true under corset feel and also enhances the seduction factor 10 fold. These were made by Cadolle. Herminie Cadolle invented the bra in 1889 and today the boutique still makes bespoke corsets.

Male Boudoir Photography

Everything you need to know and stuff you didn’t even know you should know about male boudoir photography.

More and more men are finding the appeal in a male boudoir photography session. With the chance to look and feel great, plus photos that make you look like a subject of GQ, can you blame them?

While we primarily photograph women, we’re always game to work with the opposite sex. It lets us exercise our creativity in different ways, directing for moodier expressions and stronger angles.

Can Men Do Boudoir Photography?

male-boudoir-photography-2So often we hear men (and women) say, “No way, not me.  Why would I ever do that?” Au contraire.  You CAN and should.  There are so many reasons to do a male boudoir photography session. Maybe you’re in prime physical condition and want a similar experience to this Mens fitness photography shoot or maybe you think the whole thing is a little silly and want to do a funny male boudoir photography session as a tongue-in-cheek gift to your significant other. That’s cool too.

In our humble opinion, we think it’s the perfect opportunity to push back against the notion men should always be tough, dirty, and unkempt and ladies are the only ones who get to indulge in some pampering.  Well that’s no fun!

Male Boudoir Photography Ideas

You’re starting to get it, but still nervous.  We understand!  How about some male boudoir ideas?  Think of the cover shoots of Gerad Butler or Denzel Washington. We want ALL men, not just artists or performers, to have the chance to get some kickass photos. You could do the classic Marky Mark black and white Calvin Klein ad (back before he went by Mark Wahlberg) in white boxer briefs. Or what about something like this more contemporary Armie Hammer photoshoot by Annie Leibovitz.  Super sexy and he’s totally clothed guys!! Seriously, look how many clothes he has on!

Ok, so we realize those two are pretty steamy.  How about someone more relatable?  What about Jason Batemen going with the “messy, just got off work disheveled look“. Or Stranger Things’ David Harbour looking irresistibly approachable in a Moto jacket photoshoot. Could he be more charming?

Boudoir Photography for Men: Comfort First.

male-boudoir-photography-3When it comes to boudoir photography for men, just know our work aligns closer to what you’d see in Details or Esquire vs. Boogie Nights. We’re happy to photograph you like a male model in an editorial spread or even a tasteful nude to capture your physique.  We do not do full frontal or allow any sort of groping pictures.

6 Reasons to do a boudoir shoot for no one else but your self

We could give you so many more, but here’s six reasons to do a boudoir shoot. (#5 may surprise you…)

  1. Affirm yourself.

You’ve heard it before. Boudoir is empowering.  (Hell ya, it is.)  But here’s another way of thinking about it.  It’s affirming too.  What if you let go of the “one day I’ll be this…” loop playing in your mind?  Imagine the relief that comes when you stop trying to be something other than you are?  What if you said, “I’m fine just the way I am.”  It frees up so much mental space to live your life without a heavy, dripping cloud of self-doubt following you around.boudoir-shoot-04

  2. Because you get a dose of celebrity treatment.

The fan. The hair and makeup. The wardrobe. The Beyonce treatment. Need we say more? Ok, we’ll say more.  There just aren’t enough reasons in life to get dressed up and feel fancy.  Even during a wedding, unless you’re the bride, your not the focus of the pampering.  Having someone serve you is a treat.  That treatment also including some super positive energy that touches you to the core, that’s an extra special experience.  It’s not just feeling like you’re on set of a fashion shoot that makes it so magical.  It’s being cheered by a team of people who see the best in you and are there to help you see it too.

    boudoir-shoot-06

  3. When you’re old and gray, you’ll be glad you did a boudoir shoot.

I don’t know about you, but someday, if I’m lucky enough to reach my 80s, I want to be able to look back at a time in my life before gravity was so evident. Not that aging is a bad thing. We should all be so lucky to have the wisdom and strength that comes with a certain age. But when your body is past the point of wall squats, it’ll be nice to have a record from this time to look back. boudoir-shoot-03

  4. Positive girl time.

We all need it. You know that feeling you get when you’re among your tribe. Your girls that make you feel supported. Who push you to be your best self and get you to laugh along the way. So many boudoir studio’s are full of women staff who are motivated by the same mission. This work attracts likeminded ladies. All joined together with the goal of building one another up. boudoir-shoot-07

  5. Increased libido.

So we can’t exactly prove this one, but our gut tells us that you’ll feel extra sexy post shoot.  Being in an environment where you are free and even encouraged to tap into your sexy side is liberating.  Whether we like it our not, most average women today receive constant verbal and non-verbal messages telling them to look and act a certain way. Owning your sexuality is still pretty taboo unless you’re a (insert: stereotype here). It’s a shame that pleasure is looked at with so much judgement. Science backs it’s benefits (read “The surprising health benefits of sex” and “Orgasms for a better life: The surprising benefits of sexual pleasure” for proof). Boudoir can awaken your sensual energy.  Nurture that energy after your session and you may find yourself experience more pleasure than ever before.

    boudoir-shoot-01

  6. For the joy of challenging your body.

Here’s the thing, some of these poses will hurt. You’ve pushed back against slumped shoulders and your normal gait. The next day your back may be sore, your neck stiff.  But it feels good in the same way a hard workout does.  Remember those scenes from Sex and the City of Carrie strutting her stuff in her Manolo Blahniks?  You too can have that moment.  Hey, it may even help you to have more of those moments.  The experience is a counter move to the status quo that we live out most days. boudoir-shoot-02

By now hopefully you’re with us and agree you need no other excuse to do a boudoir shoot beyond wanting to.  If you’re still on the fence, you might be inspired by this gal and this one too.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Chicago Boudoir Photographers – Choosing a Boudoir Photographer

You want to select the best Chicago boudoir photographer for your session. However, with so many photographers available, many with glowing feedback and five-star reviews, how do you make the right decision? Don’t worry; we’ll help with that!

Why Choose One Chicago Boudoir Photographer Over Another?

Of course, we’re not the only show in town. There are many Chicago boudoir photographers in the city – but that begs the question: what sets one apart from another?

chicago boudoir photography 00023

With over eight years of boudoir experience, we have photographed women of all different shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds – and we’ve learned a thing or two during that time!

While we would like to simply say, ‘Choose Revealed as your Chicago boudoir photographer’ – that alone doesn’t tell you much about us or why you should select us. Instead of bias, we have spotlighted the following five key points to help you make the right decision and prove why we think we’re the perfect candidate for your dream boudoir shoot.

  1. 100% Female Staff

chicago-boudoir-photos-00009Make no mistake: there are many excellent male Chicago boudoir photographers. We know plenty of amazingly talented and highly professional boudoir photographers who happen to be men. With that said, unfortunately, there are some creeps out there, so knowing there’s zero risk of running into a sketchy situation during your session can make a world of difference when it comes to your comfort.

That’s not to say all male photographers are icky. We know some amazing male boudoir photographers, but due diligence is necessary for something as intimate as this. That’s why, at Revealed, we stick with an all-female staff. There is one main reason we opt for this policy: customer comfort.

We understand that posing in sensual outfits and having photographs taken can be a daunting experience for some women. As such, we want you to have one less thing to worry about during your session; having an understanding, all-woman team supporting you can make a world of difference to your confidence and comfort levels.

Naturally, boudoir photography is an intimate experience. If you are already comfortable with a male boudoir photographer, that’s fantastic. On the other hand, if you are a newcomer to the boudoir world, it might do your confidence good to have an all-female team behind you.

Whatever the case, the bottom line is this: a true professional will never make you feel uncomfortable, regardless of gender. That’s why your comfort and safety are our utmost priority before, during, and after your shoot – first and foremost, before anything else.

“I was a little nervous at first, not knowing what to expect. Maggie and Kelly were truly amazing to work with. They make you feel very comfortable the moment you walk in the door.” Read more testimonials from our real clients here.

  1. Posing Is Key

Chicago boudoir photography Here’s the thing, everyone thinks they need to lose five or ten pounds before coming in. We promise you don’t – you’re perfect as you are. Sadly, many people don’t believe that, but it’s true. When having a boudoir shoot, one of the most important factors is a photographer who knows how to direct you into stunning poses that flatter you and highlight your best angles.

The right pose, along with a beautiful outfit and hair and makeup session, can go a long way in capturing the elegance and quality you desire. The best Chicago boudoir photographers understand what angles flatter different body types and can coach you there with ease.

It’s true: there are a lot of wonderful Chicago boudoir photographers, but the true test of skill is a boudoir portfolio showing a broad range of women of all shapes, sizes, and styles looking fabulous – not just one body type. For some inspiration, check out one of our behind-the-scenes videos showing how we coach a beautiful pose.

  1. A Honed Craft

Come across any Chicago boudoir photographer, and you’ll likely find someone with a high-end SLR camera, complex photo editing software, and other fancy accessories. Yet a great picture requires a lot more than just expensive gear. It takes experience and the right approach. It also takes an artistic flair that cannot be taught.

Simply put, it’s not the equipment that makes the picture but the person behind the lens. Someone can spend all the money in the world on fancy gizmos, yet it is true knowledge of how light, lens choice, angles, and timing all go into what brings an image to life.

This applies to any photography project, although it is especially pertinent when it comes to boudoir photos. Experience and talent are key in making any woman look great – not to mention a healthy amount of EQ, which is particularly important when they’re looking gorgeous in their lingerie!

  1. Tastes Vary

curvy figure boudoir photos 0004Chicago boudoir photography doesn’t fit into a small, restricted box. There are many different approaches and styles that are used for photo shoots. If you want something traditional and classic, you can find someone to do the job. If luxury boudoir is more to your taste, no problem. There are even Chicago boudoir photographers available that will opt for an overt, even cartoonish take on sessions.

Selecting the right style for your tastes and preferences is obviously important. For us, boudoir photos that really bring out those “ooh…” and “awe…” reactions are those that wouldn’t look out of place in a magazine. That’s what we always aim to achieve for our clients at Revealed.

Whatever route you take, avoid settling for the obvious or cliché. Work that elevates has an artistry to it that, ultimately, leaves you feeling positive and empowered.

  1. It’s All About the Ambiance

Location is an element you should never overlook with a boudoir photoshoot. The setting can make all the difference to the quality and style of the photos. Typically, Chicago boudoir photographers will snap their shots in home studios, hotel rooms, or in front of storefronts. What’s important to remember is that not all locations are created equal.

chicago maternity photos 0014Location is important to consider if you’re looking into a future boudoir session. It’ll determine your photos’ background and affect your overall experience. Whether virtually or in person, check a place out before booking a shoot and see if it matches your vibe. It’s okay if you’re not in a “boudoir studio,” so long as you’re in a safe, comforting space.

When we first started out, we worked out of hotel rooms and even our own homes. We did our absolute best to ensure the experience was still as professional as possible, no matter the location. However, reading a point when we could have our own studio space was a highlight of our career. It allowed us the ability to control the atmosphere and have full confidence in the setting.

New work! Fine Art Nude Pictures

Simple and tasteful. Fine art nude pictures with Ms. H.

Thanks to the world on social media, we met virtually and connected with this lovely lady below on Instagram a year ago.  We talked about collaborating back in the summer, but the timing just didn’t work out.  Finally, when the weather was really dragging in Chicago, the stars aligned and we reconnected for this session.  Maybe it was the stars, maybe the fancy Instagram algorithm, but we all instantly hit it off. Good thing too, because by the end of the shoot, Hannah was wearing nothing but her undies for these gorgeous fine art nude pictures below.  fine art nude pictures (2)

Hannah’s a true pro.  Like really.  At six feet tall without shoes and Cameron Diazesque bone structure, she could be signed with just about any agency.  When we asked why she wasn’t modeling professionally, she said there’d been opportunities, but she pushed back against the pressure to be an unhealthy level of thin. It’s hard to hear the unreasonable standards of beauty out there and we’re proud of her for rejecting them.

Thanks Hannah for inspiring us in more ways than one on this photo shoot.  We can’t wait to share the many more pictures still waiting in our archives…Follow Hannah Patricia on Instagram and see more from her photography session on the Revealed Studios Chicago Boudoir Instagram board.

For many brides, posing in front of a camera wearing lingerie can be nerve-wracking. However, you can rest assured that you are not alone in this feeling. bridal boudoir bodysuitIt starts from the moment you reach out.

They aim to make you feel pampered and empowered while capturing your unique beauty through stunning photography. You can trust that you are in good hands and will walk away from your boudoir photo shoot feeling more confident and self-assured.

Prepping before your bridal boudoir session

With your wedding on the horizon, we know you probably have a million things on your mind. We want to ease your stress, so we’ve put together 10 tips for your boudoir bridal photography shoot to ease your nerves and increase your confidence.

10 Tips on how to feel confident during your bridal boudoir shoot

Tip 1: Choose a photographer that you feel comfortable with.

bridal boudoirChoose a photographer you feel comfortable with: Look for a photographer with experience in boudoir photography and whose style matches your preferences. We know how intimate a boudoir is, and trusting your photographer is a massive part of feeling confident about your pictures.

The first thing we do is schedule a phone call to talk through all your questions and let you know what to expect. You can hear our voices and get to know us a bit. We want to help you feel relaxed and prepared for the experience.

Tip 2: Plan ahead.

One way to feel more confident during a bridal boudoir shoot is to plan and set aside a few hours for the session. Doing this allows you to avoid feeling rushed and gives you enough time to relax and enjoy the experience.

During the shoot, allow yourself to fully embrace the moment and focus on enjoying yourself. Don’t worry about time or feeling like you must rush through poses or outfit changes. Having a few hours to work with can help you feel more comfortable and confident, ultimately leading to better photos.

Tip 3: Choose outfits that make you feel confident.

bridal-boudoir-photography-01Bring a variety of outfits that you feel comfortable in and that make you feel beautiful. We have an article dedicated just to this topic that you can check out here: bridal boudoir outfits. This could include lingerie, robes, or other sexy clothing. Also, we welcome you to bring your veil, garter, and wedding shoes, as they are great accessories to evoke those wedding day feelings!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with too many choices, start by limiting yourself to a black, a white, and a color option. Black is always sexy and timeless, and white is appropriate for the occasion.

If white is not your thing, blush or nude are always great alternative colors. A color choice will also offer a nice accent for variety in your photos. Consider a color that flatters your complexion. Not sure which one flatters your skin tone? Check out this article to learn more.

Tip 4: Rock those heels.

Even if you’re not a heel kinda gal, we recommend wearing them for your bridal boudoir photos. Although they may not be the most comfortable thing in the world, heels create the look of elongating your legs, working your muscles, and lifting your booty. The effect is worth popping those heels on for a bit!

Our must-have list always includes a nude pump for all our boudoir sessions, and a black pump is a bonus. A simple stiletto heel is amazing, but if that’s not your jam, a strappy pump or a block heel are great choices too.

Tip 5: Indulge in beauty appointments.

If there’s ever a time to pamper yourself, the months leading up to your wedding are it. With the day you say “I do” on the horizon, you’ve got the best excuse for extra self-care. We recommend a few specific services before your session to enhance your boudoir look:bridal boudoir

  • Spray tan: If you’re in the Chicago area, our go-to spot for a beautiful, natural application is Glow Out in the West Loop. Their team is fantastic! Mention us; they’ll ensure you’re the perfect shade without any orange tones.
  • Mani/Pedi: Refresh your hands and feet with a mani and pedi. While we’re big fans of statement color and shape, we recommend sticking with a more subtle, elegant shape in case you ever change your mind about today’s nail trends.
  • Facial: A facial feels relaxing, and the process preps your skin for your makeup artist. You’ll be set for a flawless application on the day of your session. Tip: Please avoid harsh chemicals the week of your shoot; we recommend facial peels two weeks prior and hydra facials or micro-dermaplaning the week of.
  • Wax: If this is your usual beauty maintenance regime, go for it! But if not, stick to what you know works. It would be best if you had no adverse reactions before your photos.

Tip 6: Practice good self-care leading up to the shoot.

bridal boudoir outfitsPracticing good self-care leading up to your bridal boudoir shoot is essential for feeling confident and ready for the day. Start by drinking plenty of water, which helps keep your skin hydrated and glowing. Eating healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and lean protein will also fuel your body to feel its best.

In addition to nourishing your body, ensure you get enough rest in the days leading up to your shoot. Try to get a solid night’s sleep before the shoot day to help you feel refreshed and ready to go.

Tip 7: Indulge in this mantra. “I’m in good hands.”

Sure, confidence can come from within, but experts have agreed that confidence results from your relationships and experiences. So, practice this mantra: “I’m in good hands.” We want you to remember that you are in good hands. You’ll be in a safe, judgment-free environment surrounded by a team of women whose primary goal is to help you feel supported.

Tip 8: Practice deep breathing and relaxation techniques.

If you’re feeling nervous or anxious, try practicing deep breathing and relaxation techniques to help calm your nerves. We’re here to help you relax, as well. We’re going to pamper you as you deserve!

Once you arrive, we’ll help you make final decisions about your outfits if you hesitate about what to wear. We’ll then send you to hair and makeup, where a fantastic artist gets you glammed up. We choose to work with artists who are not only super talented but also have abundant positive energy. By the end of the application, you’ll look like the best, most refreshed version of yourself.

Tip 9: Bring a trusted friend or partner.

curvy-boudoirIf you’re nervous, consider bringing someone you trust to the shoot. They’ll gladly offer support and encouragement throughout your boudoir photography journey.

Tip 10: Don’t be shy about talking to your photographer.

Don’t be afraid to communicate with your photographer throughout the shoot. Let us know if you feel uncomfortable or have any specific ideas or requests. It’s normal to have a few jitters as we start the session. We’ll start slowly, with plenty of coaching through simple pictures to warm you up.

And no worries! We’ll provide easy-to-follow directions as we guide you through multiple poses that enhance your beauty and confidence. And if you have any posing ideas, please share!

By following these 10 tips, you’ll be amazed at how confident and comfortable you are during your bridal boudoir shoot, flowing through the experience in a way that leaves you feeling exhilarated, like you climbed a mountain. A bridal boudoir photoshoot might be the release you didn’t even realize you needed before your wedding day.

Remember to relax, have fun, and enjoy the experience!

Breakup Boudoir Photos

How Ms. L got her groove back – forget your woes and have some fun.

The breakup, we’ve all been there at one time or another. You know, that place after a recent breakup where you feel just a bit salty. Even when the person’s great and there’s no bad blood between ya, sometimes you can’t help but wanna do something to feel good about yourself.

breakup-bouodir-photos-01

For some of us it means a fresh haircut (guilty) for others it’s a trip (guilty again).  For Ms. L, after calling it quits with a recent beau, a boudoir photography session sounded fun and empowering.

We could not have vibed better with her.  She felt like an instant friend.  The energy in the studio, the light was extra glowy from a recent snowfall, and together we created some super exciting pictures.  Afterwards she wrote:

“To the ultimate entourage and my new favorite girl tribe,

There aren’t enough words to describe how grateful I am for today’s shoot—not only are you amazingly talented women, but also some of the most empowering, fierce, and bad ass betches I’ve ever met! My heart is so full right now and I owe that all to you. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!! “

Looking for some amazing boudoir style inspo?  Check out real client Ms. N’s boudoir session.

Ms. N delighted us when she unpacked her bag to reveal a pair of high-waisted bottoms, a simple navy bodysuit with the right amount of side exposure, and super fun fur jacket among other gorgeous pieces.

brides-boudoir-style-16

She was inspired by the seventies–wanting a bit of a throwback feel to her session. With an effortless beauty and understated demeanor, we kept the session pretty simple.  We stripped the white comforter from the bed and put the mattress on the floor in one scene.  In another, we turned the edison light bulb chandeliers on and set her loose against the railings of the loft after the sun had just set.

After a recent divorce and cross country move, Ms. M reconnects with herself in an intimate boudoir photoshoot.

We immediately felt a click with Ms. M when on the morning of her boudoir photoshoot.  She said things like, “I want the pictures to feel…” and talked about scenes versus poses and vibes versus looks.  She was all about embodying a woman connecting with an intimate side of herself.  Basically she spoke our language.

We eagerly embraced her vision, queuing into the energy she radiated.   Rather than offering detailed steps like, “put your hand here and slowly raise the sides of your mouth for a half smile,” we took a more cinematic approach, coaching her more on a mindset instead.

It’s inspiring and invigorating to see someone lean into the experience so much. We also loved that she started her session with a non-traditional wardrobe piece–a simple black dress.  It just goes to show alluring a woman can be while still completely dressed.  If you love the look as much as us, check out here and here for to get your hands on your own LBD.

Anything but basic boudoir photo shoot

How to get extraordinary results from your boudoir photo shoot

When Ms. E came in for her session, we asked her if there was anything she had in mind for her photo shoot.  A professional in a creative field, we knew she had killer taste and experience on sets of photo shoots.  Her only request was for an anything but basic boudoir photo shoot.

We happily welcomed this request, eagerly leaning into the challenge. So what goes into creating a “anything but basic” smokin’ hot boudoir session?

Boudoir Style:

Put some thought into your style. Take some time to browse our website and other sources of inspiration (Pinterest, movies, magazines). Consider what sets you apart as a person and own it. Maybe it’s your signature cat eye. Maybe it’s your killer salsa moves. Maybe, like Ms. E below, it’s your love of layered gold necklaces.  Whatever the case, embracing your tastes can lead to results that really represent YOU.

Bare it all:

No, we don’t mean get naked. What we’re referring to is opening up emotionally. Let yourself go a bit.  One of our favorite women in the world is such an inspiration in this category.  Diane Keaton is always so charming and captivating in any role she plays because she really connects in whatever role she performs.  We know how hard it can be to let your guard down, (in fact, we’re dedicating an entire future post on ways to work on this), but magical results come when you trust yourself and trust us.

So you’ve committed to your session, your looks are chosen, and you’re killin’ it at savasana.  What else makes for incredible boudoir photos?

Giving your photographer creative freedom is really one of the best things you can do for yourself. Trusting your photographer instills confidence and creates room for creativity.  We want nothing more than to make remarkable pictures, not just for our clients, but for ourselves.  We love this work and we often get as excited about our client’s photos as they do.

Testimonial for boudoir photos

“How do you get us to do all that?  All of your photos look like the women mean it and that’s my favorite part…”

Last week we posted the first set of photos from Jen’s photo shoot.  Today we’re excited to share the rest.  The first person to see these pictures was the subject of course.  On a quiet Friday evening, Kelly sent the link to Jen via a text message (the two have been friends for some time now).  Her response was such a charming testimonial. ”

Channeling the greats: Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Inspired Boudoir Pictures

When Jen showed up for her boudoir session she brought with her a bag that brought to mind those mini-cars at the circus somehow magically stuffed full of a dozen clowns. From it, she pulled out kimono after kimono until a pile of more than twenty lay crumbled on the bed like discarded tissues after a cry fest. “Gurrrl, first of all, that’s a lotta kimonos. And second, how did you fit them all in that one tiny bag?”

What’s with all the kimonos?

We learned during her session that kimonos were part of her regular lounge wear while relaxing at home. Thus, why she had so many. We also learned, a bit more significantly, that this year is the longest she’s ever been single in over a decade.
This was significant for us because she attributes the solo time to a sort of blossoming of spirit.  She said right now she’s deeply embracing herself—her unique style (charmingly retro), her independence (like taking trips to starved rock to camp with her only pup Betty as company), and her voice—both figuratively and literally (she’s an amazing singer and song writer).

She said she was nervous and like all our sessions, there was an open bottle of bubbly for some extra encouragement.  But truly, you’d never know there was a question of confidence from the way she moved. The best way to describe it is “in the moment.”

Channeling the greats, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe

We hope you enjoy the first collection of images from her photo shoot in which she channeled Elizabeth Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, followed by a free-spirited dance wearing, wait for it, a pink kimono ????
