Behind the Scenes: Retouching

We receive a lot of questions regarding how we retouch our clients’ images. As mentioned before, we can erase cellulite and fix tan lines. Double chins and bellies can be diminished. However, our retouching mantra is to get it right in camera with good hair, makeup, lighting and posing. Clients are often surprised how good they look in camera before any retouching even occurs.

So what does a photo look like straight out of the camera?

Here’s me.

Now here I am color-corrected. In other words, my hair and skin matches what you see in real life.

Next, I erase any funky textural issues, my red splotches and neck wrinkles. (I left my smile lines in because I’m fine with those.)

Voila, much better.

Those bags under my eyes due to restless nights taking care of my newborn babies?

Gone.

And what about my clothing wrinkles?

Poof. They’re outta here. Well, sorta…I could do some more work on them, but you get the point. 🙂

So that is my quick retouching edit to show you the work that goes into our clients’ photos before they see them. Hair flyaways are also erased, but my hair wasn’t too unruly in this pic. Good retouching is subtle, in our opinion. We stay away from turning skin into plastic.

Lastly, we add a little extra spice to the photo, which bumps up contrast and color.

Here’s a before and after of the photo.  The left is straight out of camera and the right is after retouching.

Butt Photography – “Because we’re all about that bass…”

Boudoir Sexy Photography: Photo Emphasis on the Booty

Turn on the radio and women glorifying their curves, especially their bums, seems to be the trend du jour. The songs range from cutesy like “All About That Bass,” to the more seductive  “Anaconda.” Boudoir photography featuring the bodacious butt can also teeter from cute to mucho obvious-o. As boudoir photographers, we sometimes feel like we are butt specialists. “Can you smooth my cellulite?” is our number one question clients ask us before a photoshoot. The second one is, “Please get rid of my tan lines!”

In case you were thinking of recording your backside for posterity or for that special someone, here is the “Revealed Official Guide to Butt Photography.” (Please forgive us if it’s a little “cheeky.”)

boudoir sexy photography

1.) We don’t have to take a photo of your bum. Seriously. If you prefer photos of your other assets, no problem. But let’s face it, a lot of men like their women’s backside, so we are often asked to feature it when the photos are going to be given as a gift.

2.) We are butt-posing gurus. You might feel like you did a hundred squats after the shoot, but we will tell you how to position your body with precision so your legs and butt look sculpted and lifted.

3.) Lighting or lack thereof makes a world of difference. Depending on each client’s needs, we will also use lighting and shadows to sculpt, maximize or minimize her derriere.

4.) Have tan lines? No problem. After lighting and posing, retouching is the safety net in the butt perfecting trilogy. We use subtle photoshop to correct skin texture and uneven skin color.

5.) Shake what your momma gave you. Having fun is the number one trick to making a great photo, no matter which angle is being photographed. Expect lots of music, dancing and goofiness during your shoot.

Beyoncé and Boudoir

What we can learn from Beyoncé

We love Beyoncé! While working on our new studio, we’ve been dancing and singing to her new album, Beyoncé.  While looking on youtube for her new videos, I ran across this older video, Best Thing I Never Had, and was struck how much it was like a boudoir shoot. The way Beyoncé moves her body and looks into the camera is so elegant, sexy and confident. Check it out for posing inspiration.

If you haven’t seen our new behind the scenes boudoir video, you should check it out. We are very excited about this video collaboration with our client, Ms. A, makeup artist, Jaycie Lynn, and Guy Bauer Productions.

Ms. A decided to be photographed by us, because she is finally at peace with her body. We had such a great time photographing this stunning grandma.

Maggie and I are so passionate about our mission to make every woman feel beautiful. From makeup and hair, to clothing and then the portrait shoot, it’s wonderful to see our clients’ confidence grow and their eyes begin to sparkle.

We love making images like these.

Inspired by Audrey Hepburn

Taking inspiration from this Audrey Hepburn quote…

We love Audrey Hepburn.  Turns out her quotes are just as powerful as her images and movies.  Along with her quotes, here are two Revealed images that we’d like to think evoke the spirit of Audrey.

“There is more to sex appeal than just measurements. I don’t need a bedroom to prove my womanliness. I can convey just as much sex appeal, picking apples off a tree or standing in the rain.” – Audrey Hepburn

“I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and… I believe in miracles.” – Audrey Hepburn

Boudoir Posing for the Curvy Girl

Boudoir Posing for the Curvy Girl

The moment I saw Kate Upton on the Vogue cover, I knew I had to share how perfect her pose is for curvy women and boudoir. Granted, she has an amazing body, but like myself (Laurie), she has a larger chest that can easily translate to Dolly Parton or make you look larger than you are if photographed from the wrong angle.

In the cover below, Kate has collapsed her shoulders forward so her chest is pulled away from the camera while keeping her torso long.  This pose would also be perfect for girls who aren’t in love with their bellies since your arms and legs cover any bits you want to hide.

I also put together a Pinterest board with more poses by Ms. Upton and model, Crystal Renn, as curvy girl inspiration that fit the Revealed Studio’s aesthetic. These models really know how to create elegant curves by maximizing their assets.  Feel free to check it out and follow us on Pinterest for future inspiration. Not a model and worried about posing? No problem!  Maggie and I are pros at giving step-by-step posing instruction. Questions or interested in booking? Contact us.  P.S. Maggie will be posting inspiration for girls with smaller chests shortly.
